Spicy Mung Dal

Pressure-cooked mung dal seasoned with red chili powder, salt, and hing, with a small oil-ghee-hing tempering.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup mung dal (soak 1 hour beforehand)
  • red chili powder
  • salt
  • asafoetida (hing) (also mentioned in tempering)
  • 2 tsp oil (for tempering)
  • ghee (for tempering)
  • water (enough to boil; plus a little water with spices)

Instructions

  1. Soak the dal 1 hour beforehand.
  2. Wash the dal, add enough water, and boil in a pressure cooker.
  3. Add red chili powder, salt, hing, and a little water.
  4. Cook in the pressure cooker until one whistle.
