Moong Dal (Saragwalo Moong)

Saragwalo Moong

Boiled moong dal seasoned with ginger, green chilies, spices, jaggery and lemon, finished with a mustard-cumin tempering in oil and ghee.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup moong (whole or split)
  • ginger (crushed)
  • 3–4 green chilies
  • salt
  • turmeric
  • red chili powder
  • jaggery
  • lemon
  • mustard seeds (tempering)
  • cumin (tempering)
  • oil (tempering)
  • ghee (tempering)

Instructions

  1. Boil the moong until cooked.
  2. Prepare tempering: add mustard seeds first, then add the rest of the tempering ingredients (cumin, oil, ghee).
  3. Add ginger, green chilies, salt, turmeric, red chili powder, jaggery, and lemon to the dal.
  4. Mix well and serve.
