Soaked urad dal is coarsely ground with ginger, then tempered with spices and fried until crisp.
Ingredients
- urad dal (soak 8–10 hours)
- ginger paste
- oil (some; for frying/tempering)
- jeera (cumin)
- hing (asafoetida)
- haldi (turmeric)
- salt
- red chilli powder
Instructions
- Soak urad dal for 8–10 hours.
- Discard the remaining water.
- Grind the dal coarsely and add ginger paste.
- Heat oil and add cumin and hing.
- Add turmeric, salt, and red chilli powder.
- Add the ground dal mixture and fry until crisp.
