Batata Pudla (Potato Pudla)

Batata Pudla

A spiced potato-onion mixture cooked after a mustard-hing tempering; cooked gently to avoid burning.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 kg potatoes (boiled; soak in water 15 minutes before (as written))
  • 2 medium onion
  • 4–5 green chillies
  • cumin seeds
  • 1 lemon
  • red chilli powder
  • salt
  • turmeric
  • oil (for tempering)
  • mustard seeds (for tempering)
  • hing (asafoetida) (for tempering)

Instructions

  1. Soak the boiled potatoes in water about 15 minutes before starting (as written).
  2. Make tempering: heat oil and add mustard seeds and hing.
  3. Add onion, green chillies, and potatoes.
  4. Add cumin seeds, lemon, red chilli powder, salt, and turmeric; mix well.
  5. Cook on a slow flame for 5–10 minutes.

Tips

  • Cook on low flame; high flame may burn.
